Anton Yelchin’s parents filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Fiat Chrysler, the maker of the Jeep that killed the Russian-American actor in an accident in Los Angeles, California, on June 19.
Yelchin was killed when his truck reversed down the driveway to his home, trapping the actor between a brick column and a security fence.
“Anton Yelchin was crushed and he was I live for a while, trapped and suffocating to death”, establishes the demand.

Victor and Irina Yelchin filed a lawsuit for Reckless manslaughter and product liability v. Fiat Chrysler in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The lawsuit alleges that the gearshift in the Jeep Grand Cherokee The actor’s 2015 was defective and poorly designed and manufactured.
The BBC Mundo correspondent in Los Angeles, Beatriz Díez, points out that the parents offered an emotional press conference after leaving court.
“It is against nature for parents to bury their own child. That is why we hope that this lawsuit will ensure that other families do not have to go through the same hell we are in right now, “said Victor Yelchin.
The lawsuit seeks damages but does not specify an amount.
Fiat Chrysler issued a statement extending “its condolences to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss.” The company added that it cannot comment on the lawsuit.
Withdrawal from the market
Yelchin’s SUV was one of the 1.1 million vehicles that the manufacturer called for review because electronic gear shifting confuses drivers.
There have been several incidents where users believed they had it in parking mode but it was in driving or reverse mode.
This causes vehicles to roll unexpectedly and has so far caused 117 crashes, according to data from the US National Highway Safety Agency.
This body found that the operation of the gears is not “intuitive” and offers “little visual and tactile feedback to the driver, increasing the possibility of selecting the wrong gear.”
“It does not provide enough information to the user”stated Gary Dordick, a Beverly Hills attorney representing the family.
Dordick explained that the actor started his car and apparently got out of it to pick up something from the house, believing he was in the parking position when the accident occurred.
The lawyer added that The Fiat Chrysler notice reached the actor’s home seven days after his death.
A few days after Yelchin’s death, a group of Jeep Grand Cherokees owners filed a class action lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler over the same matter.
