Extraction star Chris Hemsworth reveals what he’s doing to prepare in terms of cardio and body training for the Netflix action movie’s next entry.
Chris Hemsworth just outlined his exercise schedule to reprise his role as Tyler Rake in the follow-up to 2020’s Extraction.
Gearing up for @netflix Extraction sequel,” Hemsworth wrote on Instagram. “Transitioning from heavy weight training to a lot more body weight functional movements concentrating on agility, strength and speed. Give this little work out a go and let the lungs scream for mercy!” He also provided video footage of the warmups and where they specifically target his body, including boxing, squats, sit-thrusts and pushups.
Extraction, adapted from Ande Parks’ graphic novel Town, became Netflix’s most-watched film since its release, reaching 99 million views in just four weeks. The movie followed Rake, a former SARS operative-turned-hired gun tasked with retrieving Ovi, a kidnapped drug lord’s son held hostage in Bangladesh, only to be double-crossed by his contact in Dhaka. This forces Rake to go on the run with Ovi as all nearby exits are shut down, leading to a 12-minute ongoing action scene of them trying to escape by car and then through a housing complex. Extraction also debuted three months before Netflix released another action film based on a comic series — the Charlize Theron-led The Old Guard — whose sequel will begin production next year.
Though Hemsworth, director Sam Hargrave and producers Joe and Anthony Russo will return for the Extraction sequel, it was recently announced that the movie will film in Prague rather than Australia due to coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdowns, as reported by Variety. Plot details have not been revealed, though Hargrave previously stated that the Russo Brothers want a Marvel-like approach for branching Extraction out into a similar franchise format. In addition to Extraction 2, Hemsworth completed filming on his latest Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder in June, which is currently scheduled to come out in 2022. He will also star in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Angry, though Warner Bros. recently delayed it to May 2024.
Directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction 2 currently does not have a release date.
