The actor Ed Asner, who played Lou Grant on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and voiced Carl Fredricksen’s character in Pixar’s ‘Up’, has died at the age of 91.
As his own publicist confirmed to NBC, the seven-time Emmy-winning star passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, surrounded by his family.
Asner, who was married twice, is survived by her two sons and two sons, the product of both her marriages and another past relationship.
“We regret to report that our beloved patriarch died this morning, in the midst of peace,” reads a message posted on the account of Twitter of the actor. “Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on the head, good night, dad. We love you,” the tweet concluded.
The news of Ed’s death hit hard among his professional colleagues, who used social networks to say goodbye to him with heartfelt tributes.
One of the last projects in which Asner participated was ‘Cobra Kai’, where he played the stepfather of Johnny Lawrence, played by the actor William “Billy” Zabka. The 55-year-old star posted the following on Twitter:
